Building Connections

Connectivity is the first principal of ecology and the underlying philosophy to LINC’s mission.

All life is interconnected, yet there is a growing disconnection in the world today, imposing barriers to sustainability. Just as natural landscapes are fragmented to an unprecedented degree, numerous disconnects persist in human behaviors as we relate to our natural environment, including:

• Growing distance between modern society and the natural world
• Gaps between scientific knowledge and public understanding
• Separation between science-based advise and public policy
• Disjoining of cultural traditions and modern life
• Distancing of natural truths from our collective consciousness

These trends of disconnection are eroding the ecological fabric of our planet and demand our immediate attention. The most direct remedy is reconnection. We must build and maintain the connections that lead toward sustainable balance.

In the modern world, communications provide the best tools for constructing these connections. We can connect society with the natural world, connect scientific knowledge to public understanding, connect science-based advice to policy, connect cultural traditions to modern life, and connect natural truths to our collective consciousness.

As we strive to build these connections, science will provide our road map and visual communication will serve as our most effective vehicle. Powerful imagery opens a direct window into social consciousness and is a proven catalyst for change. We hope the communications efforts will also provide a synergistic effect, inspiring organizations and individuals to work together toward common goals.
